A website that works correctly is developed in three stages: a preliminary phase, the development phase and the post publication.

In order to understand how a functioning and performing site is developed, it is important to know roughly these three phases.

Preliminary phase. A webmaster must take the time to get to know the customer and understand the goal behind the creation of the site: is it to assert the brand identity on the market? Change the way of selling? Looking for new customers? Or maybe the three things at the same time? How much traffic is expected? Does the buyer have suitable video and photographic material, or there is the need to produce it? All this aspects impact on the choice of the domain, the hosting and the template used to create the site. You would be surprised to find out how many developers do not dedicate the right time to these aspects, delivering a final product that does not meet the expectations of the customer, who feels he has wasted money on a product that is useless for his business.

Development phase. It is a complex phase, in which the design agreed with the customer must match perfectly the contents, but also the software necessary for the correct functioning of the site (plugins for security, indexing, translation, backup etc.). Every addition or modification of an element has an impact on the whole project, so it is essential to rely on an expert web developer, who has clear ideas from the beginning of the project. The final step is to make the page design responsive, that is, to make it adaptable and pleasant regardless of the device from which the site is accessed. Think of the laptops, which usually have rectangular and horizontally-oriented screens, and compare them to a mobile phone which instead has a much smaller and vertically-oriented screen! That’s why a functioning website must have at least 3 tested versions: mobile, tablet and desktop.

Post publication. If you think that after online publication of the site the work is done, you are wrong! Once the site is online, a series of tests and operations must be carried out to optimize its functioning. First of all, multi-device tests are implemented in order to correct any flaws in the responsive layout; then the indexing is optimized by “informing” the various search engines (Google and Bing, just to name a few) that the site exists; finally,  other operations are carried out in order to keept the site safe and stable.
